The Hidden Gem of Latvian Summer – Festival “Sansusī” Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The eagerly awaited annual alternative chamber music festival, “Sansusī,” is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary from August 11 to 13. Taking place in the picturesque woods of Susēja, the festival promises an unforgettable experience by unveiling its program only upon the attendees’ arrival.

“Sansusī” has become known for its unique blend of contemporary classical and avant-garde music, featuring both rising talents and established artists who are only revealed at the festival. And yet the first artist is already announced – american pianist Robert Fleitz will perform a solo program.

Nature holds a significant place in the festival’s heart, and organizers are committed to creating an eco-friendly event. In line with this vision, “Sansusī” has joined forces with the Latvian Nature Foundation, signing the “Goodwill Memorandum on Organizing Nature and Climate-Friendly Events.” Attendees are encouraged to embrace nature-friendly practices throughout the festival.

To mark this special milestone, the festival’s head, Armands Siliņš, promises an unforgettable focus on the opera genre, with stirring interpretations by Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian, and Greek artists. In addition, the international stage will feature performances by two esteemed artists from the Netherlands, a prominent US composer, a skilled Ukrainian pianist, and a talented French quartet. Of course, the festival will also showcase the incredible talent of local Latvian artists.

The “Sansusī” association, established in 2013, envisioned an open-air chamber music festival with the laid-back ambiance of a small rock festival, where attendees can revel in classical music while camping under the stars. The festival’s artistic expression extends beyond chamber music, embracing contemporary circus, dance performances, and theater acts, creating an immersive and diverse experience.
